This International Women’s Day we honour and celebrate the courage, tenacity and faith of two incredible women who shine brightly in El Salvador!
Over the years of working in amongst El Salvador’s poor and marginalized communities, we have had the privilege of meeting some pretty special people who can only be described as extraordinary. Today as we celebrate International Women’s Day, we honour women who not only #CHOOSETOCHALLENGE but who are breaking through incredible barriers and through their ministry in El Salvador. They are women who sacrificially give out of themselves to impart wisdom, strength and who are creating lasting legacies for the generations to come!
“The gospel of Jesus Christ is incorporated into all that we do, and I feel very blessed to be a part of what the Lord is doing in El Salvador. With your continued prayers, He will do more!”
Thirteen years ago, Janis joined a short-term Missions trip with a team from the US to El Salvador, unbeknownst to her it would be a trip that would radically alter the course of her life. In El Salvador as Janis went about serving the poor, she began to feel what she can only describe as an ‘overwhelming love’ being imparted in her heart for the Salvadorean people. Upon returning home to the US she courageously began to step into the vision of how she was to spend the rest of her life. Answering this call of God on her, she left everything she knew behind in the US including her job, family and friends and moved solo to El Salvador where she passionately set about forming the ‘Abigail Association’ with mission of helping to introduce people to Jesus and to also meet people’s physical needs.
Thirteen years later Abigail Association runs six children’s feeding programs, one senior citizen program, two medical clinics complete with dental and laboratory services. Abigail Association is very active in taking medical care to many different areas via a mobile medical clinic and hosts medical and construction teams from different parts of the world.
Pastor Roxana de Moran
“My passion is to see women’s lives touched by God, but more than that it is to see how God in their lives empowers and lifts THEM up so they can in turn transform their world “
Ps Roxana de Morán along with her husband Ps Mario and their three teenage children are part of the team at Iglesia Castillo del Rey, El Salvador. In March 2016, at the age of 45, Roxana was left paralysed in 65% of her body. While in Hospital faced with a fatal diagnosis, she had an incredible encounter with God who gave her a second chance at life and against all medical odds began to heal. Upon her recovery, Roxana’s passion to see other women renewed and restored fuelled her ministry, to gather women to reach other women facing desperate circumstances in different parts of El Salvador.
Her ministry ‘Women with purpose’ provide practical assistance and spiritual support. Roxana’s team boldly go where others fear to, humbly serving and reaching women marginalized and in need. At home in El Salvador and as an International speaker Roxana’s passion is evident.
