The Issues

At Salvador's HOPE we are dedicated to empowering women and children. We work with some of the most vulnerable and abused children, providing them with their basic needs within a loving and safe environment.

UNICEF reports that Salvadoran children are being threatened with theft, extortion and murder.  Much of this is due to the powerful reach of the gangs that have a “join or die” approach.  Heartbreakingly, these threats are certainly not empty, with El Salvador having the highest child murder rate in the world in 2014.

Femicide is a relatively new term used to describe a crime involving the violent and deliberate killing of a woman – because of her gender. Sadly in the last few years El Salvador has continued to creep up to rank in the top five countries with the highest rates of Femicide in the world and in the last year El Salvador had the highest rate of women murdered in the world.

A lost generation….

Sadly within the incredible El Salvadorian land and culture lies a debilitating and devastating problems that has led to the highest levels of murder, bloodshed and violence in the world.

El Salvador is geographically the smallest Central American country, with a population of around 6 million people.  However, it had the highest murder rate in the world in 2015: with 104 murders per 100,000 people – over 6600 murders
