Unaccompanied Minors reach the US border

This February saw the number of unaccompanied children arriving at the Mexico- U.S border increase significantly.

A surge in the number of children, some as young as 5 years old, transported by paid people smugglers to the Mexico- U.S border crossing and who are now being held in detention facilities has increased by more than 60% than at the same time last year (NBC, 2021).

In the month of March alone, U.S border officials estimate that up to 18,500 children predominantly from Central American countries arrived at the border without a parent or guardian (CFR, 2021).

Children from countries like Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador are amongst the highest arrivals appealing for asylum in the U.S.

The crisis unfolding at the U.S border is symptomatic of decades long issues which Central America sadly grapples with and account for the thousands of migrants arriving at the border every day.

Staggering violence in Central America, increase in poverty, lack of food security and an even greater increase in gender-based violence are the leading causes of this crisis. Families are making heart-breaking decisions to separate from their children at rates never seen before, in the hope that their children can live a better life.

In El Salvador, we know the reality of daily life for people in desperate, poor and dangerous communities and we have seen the long lasting impacts of violence and the threat of violence on children and families.

Thankfully, we have the opportunity to continue to shine a light in the darkness in these communities and we are thankful for the opportunity to step in and provide much needed hope to families and children in crisis through our feeding programs.

Yet, there is so much more that we can do! Our heart is to reach more children living in communities which have been long devastated in El Salvador.

And we need your help.

Every child is precious and has a right to feel safe, secure and to live in a fairer world and we can all help make a difference.

As we approach the end of financial year we would love for you to consider making a Tax deductible donation to Salvador's HOPE.

Your donations will allow us to continue to minister and provide support to precious children and families facing critical situations, to provide regular meals, discipleship and mentorship in a safe environment where children can be free to play.

Thank you for helping us make a difference!
